A Place to Grow Community Through Nature

More than a school, we’re a community. Set on 80 beautiful acres just outside Dunnville, Ontario at Bliss Haven Retreat and surrounded by protected conservation land, our Forest School gives children the space to explore, create, make friends, and develop confidence through hands-on experiences in the natural world. Every child is welcomed, encouraged, and supported as they learn in their own unique way.

Hands-On Learning In The Forest

Learning Through Doing

At Barefoot Bushcraft Forest School, we believe children learn best when they have the freedom to explore, the guidance to grow, and a community that encourages them every step of the way. Our days are thoughtfully structured while leaving plenty of room for curiosity, creativity, and child-led discovery.

We recognize that every child learns differently. By meeting children where they are and encouraging their natural curiosity, we create an environment where every learner has the opportunity to succeed.

Whether a child is naturally adventurous, quiet and observant, energetic, or simply learns differently, every student is welcomed, encouraged, and supported. We celebrate each child’s unique strengths while helping them build confidence, resilience, practical life skills, and meaningful friendships in the outdoors.

Adventure Based Learning

We believe childhood should be filled with muddy feet, curious questions, campfire stories, woodland adventures, and the freedom to explore. Every day at Forest School is designed to nurture confidence, independence, creativity, and a love of the outdoors in a safe, welcoming community.

Learning That Lasts

At Barefoot Bushcraft Forest School, we believe children learn best through curiosity, exploration, and meaningful relationships. Rather than simply giving answers, our educators encourage children to ask questions, investigate, observe, and discover for themselves. This mentoring approach helps children become confident learners, creative problem-solvers, and thoughtful members of their community.

Our approach is inspired by internationally recognized leaders in nature-based education, including Richard Louv and Jon Young. Through storytelling, careful observation, hands-on exploration, and meaningful mentoring relationships, children build a genuine connection with the natural world while developing confidence, resilience, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. we create opportunities for children to build a genuine relationship with the natural world. Through storytelling, nature observation, hands-on experiences, and shared discovery, children develop not only practical skills, but also confidence, resilience, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

🌿 Morning Circle

🍎 Snack & Morning Adventures

🥪 Lunch, Stories & Reflection

🌲 Afternoon Exploration

Each day begins together as a community. During Morning Circle, children share stories, celebrate discoveries, talk about what’s happening in their lives, and help plan the day’s adventures. Together we observe the weather, notice the changing seasons, and decide which opportunities the forest has to offer. It’s a time to connect, build friendships, and begin the day with curiosity and purpose.

After a healthy snack, it’s time to head outdoors. Children choose from a variety of guided experiences based on their interests, the season, and the day’s opportunities. One group may head into the woods to explore while another practises archery, builds shelters, follows animal tracks, or simply let curiosity lead the way. Our educators guide the experience while leaving room for child-led discovery.

After a busy morning outside, everyone gathers for lunch before slowing the pace. Afternoons include storytelling, journalling, reading, creative projects, and other activities that encourage children to reflect on their experiences and strengthen literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.

The adventure isn’t over. Children return outdoors for more exploration, imaginative play, nature-based projects, mud kitchen, wildlife observation, games, and seasonal activities. Every day ends with muddy feet, smiling faces, and new stories to bring home.
